It’s insulting, says Salim Kumar after being dropped from IFFK inauguration function

The national award winners are to light the lamp for the function.

National award winning actor Salim Kumar has responded on being dropped from inaguration of International Film Festival (IFFK) of Kerala’s Kochi's edition. The national award winners are to light the lamp for the function. But when asked why he was not invited, the organisers cited his age as the reason for dropping him.

“They came up with the trivial response of giving opportunity to youngsters. But in case of age, there is no huge age difference between Ashiq Abu, Amal Neerad or me. They both were my juniors in college. Here everything is political. I didn’t receive award just when congress was in rule, I had won even during CPM reign,” he said. I called them to know why I was dropped from the function. They told me I was overaged. It was an interesting reply. They have already proved they could do whatever they want with artistes. That’s why the state award was kept on table for them to take, he further added.

However, Chalachitra Academy chairman Kamal promised that the actor would be present at the function and that the organisers would have been late in inviting the actor.
