Though Gambon had many films to his credit, including ‘The Lord of the Rings’, he was best known as Hogwarts most-admired headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Michael Gambon AKA Albus Dumbledore was one of the most admired characters in Harry Potter films. He died on September 28 at the age of 82. As heartbroken fans paid tribute to the veteran actor on X (formerly Twitter), they remembered one of his most hard-hitting dialogues on death from ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’. In the book, his take on death read, “After all, to the well-organised mind, death is but the next great adventure.”
For context, Dumbledore said this to Harry Potter when the latter was at the hospital towards the end during Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This was in reference to Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel’s joint decision to destroy the stone, which invariably meant that the latter would die, someday.
Veteran actor Michael Gambon died on Thursday, September 28. He was 82. A statement by his family, issued by his publicist, said he died following “a bout of pneumonia.”
“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside,” his family said.
Last year, Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in Harry Potter films, died on October 14, 2022, at 72.
