Basheer was born in Edava in the Thiruvananthapuram district. He pursued his Ganabooshanam, an academic degree in music from the ‘Swathi Thirunal Music Academy’, and later in 1972, he formed the Kollam Sangeethalaya Ganamela troupe.

Though Basheer had few film songs in his kitty, he was famous for his stage performances and he introduced many musical instruments in his Ganamela troupe.

Basheer made his debut in the Malayalam film industry as a playback singer for the film ‘Raghu Vamsham’. His song ‘Azhithira Malakal Azhalinte Malakal’ for the movie ‘Mukkuvane Snehicha Bootham’ was a hit. He turned down singing opportunities in the film as he was busy with music concerts and didn’t want to leave it for films.

He was residing in Kollam and is survived by his wives and children.
