Don’t fall for fake adverts on sale of pets, Abu Dhabi warns residents

Police say that fraudsters are using social media sites and some buy and sell applications to dupe people

The Abu Dhabi Police have warned residents about the recent rise in the number of fake advertisements regarding the sale of pet animals.

Police say that fraudsters are using social media sites and some buy and sell applications to dupe people by offering to ship the animals from outside the UAE.

“Fake adverts instruct people to transfer to certain bank account or to individuals through international money exchange companies in order to get their pets shipped into the UAE.”

Highlighting the keen efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police to raise awareness and combat fraudulent advertisements, Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of ADP's Criminal Security Sector, has urged reisdents to cooperate with the police and report such ads.

To report cases of fraud one can visit the nearest police station or contact the 24-hour fully confidential Aman service on toll free number 8002626 (AMAN2626).

Residents can also sending text message to 2828 or emails to aman@adpolice.ae, or using ADP’s smart application.
