Thunderous tweets

The widely shared tweets of international celebrities went viral, garnering thousands of responses.

Farmers protest in India has gained all the international attention. Internet is flooded with tweets from global celebrities and it is going to change the narrative again. Tweets by pop-star Rihanna and climate-activist Greta Thunberg have triggered a political storm. Defensive comments by those who think that they are the only patriotic, will not resolve but cause more chaos. These tweets are an indirect reference to the poor plight of farmers who unfortunately are not getting support from their own elected government. We cannot defend these tweets by just simplifying it to the internal matter of the country which these outsiders cannot understand. Rihanna, Greta or Meena Harris may not know about three farmer laws but they are sensitive enough to understand the undemocratic ways of the Oligarchy which is known as Democracy in India.

These farmers have been peacefully protesting on the roads since November. They have lost their family members in this peaceful battle. Internet shutdown, water and power supply cut off to the peaceful protesters have raised many questions globally. Are they not deprived of the fundamental freedom? Frequently they have been lathi charged and abused. Strangely, Iron spikes, nails on roads, steel barricades and concrete walls with heavily militarized borders at the protest sites is one of the attempts to thwart the growing farmers’ protest. The locals at Singhu and Tikri borders are facing the maximum difficulties. Is the government bothered about them? Locals have to walk miles to take a bus. They too feel sad for these hapless wanderers who have become nomads in their own land. There is a tension in the air. Freedom of expression has got a new meaning in this new order. Expressing one’s view is anti-national. Journalists have been interrogated, jailed, and bailed. It is giving a wrong message to the world.

Twitter deletes Kangana Ranaut's tweets against farmers protest

Farmers organizations have strongly condemned the unfortunate course of events on 26th January. They have apologized for what they strongly believe was a conspiracy. Fasting on 30 January and flag march to show their disapproval hasn’t helped much. It is a movement of farmers’ community irrespective of caste, creed or religion has been misinterpreted by the rightists.

Can we not stop playing the blame game and remove the differences before it turns to a civil war? We do not afford another 1984 or 1991 riots. These trivial tweets should not become a national debate. Diffuse the situation before it becomes combustible.
