Rare snowfall blankets Saudi’s Jabal Al-Lawz

A number of weather bodies also witnessed heavy rain and snowfall on Jabal Al-Lawz.

Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk region saw heavy snowfall on Saturday, with authorities closing some mountain roads.

Few cars were seen on the icy streets except for emergency vehicles or those with four-wheel drive.

The snowfall was witnessed on the heights of Jabal Al-Lawz in the city of Tabuk, on Saturday, as a result of a cold air mass rushing towards the region, which reduced surface temperatures to nearly zero degrees Celsius.

A number of weather bodies also witnessed heavy rain and snowfall on Jabal Al-Lawz.

Video clips posted to social media showed Jabal Al-Lawz's awe-inspiring terrain covered in snow, while some hikers were seen filming the moments and enjoying the atmosphere.

Security forces closed the road to Jabal Al Lawz to avoid overcrowding in light of coronavirus. Weather authorities said that snow is expected to fall again on Jabal Al-Lawz and the highlands of Dhahr and Alqan on Sunday.

The temperature is expected to drop to zero degrees celsius.

Saudi Tourism officials said that the snowfall on the granite terrain of Jabal Al-Lawz makes the mountain a perfect winter destination.
