Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai has a deep rooted past

Tajmahal, One of the most luxurious five star hotels in India has a deep rooted past attached to it . As rumour has it, some believe that the architect, who designed the hotel, killed himself in the building as the design for the place did not go according to the plan. Many have witnessed the ghost of the head architect still wandering in the corridor. The hotel opened doors for its guests on December 16, 1903.

• After being barred from entering the Watson Hotel that was meant only for whites, Jamshedji Tata decided to built a Hotel for himself and the countrymen, in answer to the insult felt.

• During World War-1 whole building was turned into a 600 bed hospital to treat the injured and victims.

• Steel used to make Dome of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is same as the steel used to build the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

• It is the First Hotel of India to avail Electricity and to install and operate steam elevators.

• And it is also the first hotel of India to import American Fans, German Elevators, Turkish Baths and English Butlers.

• It took 12 months to restore the damage and 500 crore rupees (USD 91 Million), and was reopened for public on 15th August, 2010 .
