9 out of 10 students opt for second term online education in Sharjah

School reopening had been safe and smooth in the emirate

As most schools in the UAE reopened for their second term earlier this week, 170,000 returned to their books. Corona fear still instils in the minds of most parents forcing to opt for online education for their children. Nearly 90 per cent remained in distance learning while about 19,000 had opted for face-to-face classes and hybrid education. The emirate’s education authorities, however, reminded parents that they can easily switch their kids’ learning modes in the middle of the school year.

Students in Sharjah are free to enrol in any of the three education systems: 100 per cent virtual classes, onsite learning, and hybrid education which is a mix of both. Out of the total number of schoolkids, 149,568 are currently full-time e-learners.

Due to the unprecedented situation worldwide, majority of students prefer online education, but the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) ensures that campuses are implementing all safety precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

A top SPEA official confirmed that the school reopening had been safe and smooth in the emirate, with no complaints or violations recorded since the first day of the second term.

Ali Al Hosani, director of SPEA, said the authority had started the second academic term with a number of inspection tours and schools had proven that they are determined to provide a healthy educational environment for their students. The SPEA continues to carry out intensive inspections to ensure safety at over 117 private schools throughout the academic year.
