According to Al Khaleej daily, the size of the lake is 40 metres long and 10 metres wide. The island is just 100 metres away off the coast.

Dr Saif Al Ghais, director-general of the Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA), said the lake’s pink colour could be attributed to the presence of red algae usually found in such water bodies.

He added that the authority cannot conclusively explain the colour of the lake till it studies some samples from it.
