Sharjah gets first permanent photography exhibition
Gallery X, the first permanent international photography exhibition in Sharjah was launched at Xposure 2021 on Saturday. The first-of-its-kind gallery in the UAE will feature a monthly exhibition and display winning and nominated images from past editions of the prestigious Xposure International Photography Awards.
To be housed at the iconic Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Gallery X will be hosting a collection of the works of world-renowned photographers who have previously participated in the Xposure International Photography Festival.
Gallery X emerged from a wish to offer tribute to the remarkable work that has been put in collectively by generations of photographers, which have enabled the world to put a face to breaking news, nature’s beauty and its wrath, people and their emotions, arts and life, architecture, science and medicine, music, literature — just about everything that make up our visual memories.
The first-of-its-kind gallery in the UAE dedicated to the medium, Gallery X pays homage to the development of the art of visual storytelling through the ages. The gallery curation which will feature a new exhibition every month, will include stunning images captured by talented photographers who have received awards or been nominated at past editions of the prestigious Xposure International Photography Awards.
Gallery X is poised to become a new cultural and educational hotspot in the region, and aims to attract residents, international creatives, emerging talents and local youth by offering long-term exhibitions, academic programmes and workshops.
The initiative will provide a great new opportunity for all those interested in the art of photography to come together, learn, share and celebrate the gift of image making.
Gallery X will also launch an exclusive line of merchandise sporting the Xposure brand which will include T-shirts, hoodies, caps, mugs, among other items. These items were launched at the Gallery X stall at the festival.
The gallery was launched on last day of the Xposure 2021. Organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the exhibition showcased thoughtfully curated 1,558 works of around 400 renowned and emerging photographers, celebrating images that froze key moments in history, recorded people of diverse cultures, captured the beauty of nature, and more.
The four-day festival, provided an exciting and innovative meeting place for practitioners to connect and communicate with curators and industry professionals from around the world.
