Fog blankets UAE for over 8 hours on Saturday

The lowest temperature of 21.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Damtha in Al Ain City at 6:30 am on Saturday.

Fog blanketed separate areas of the UAE on Saturday morning and lasted for eight and a half hours.

It started at 1:00 am in the morning and continued until 8:30 am as a result of the country being affected by weak surface pressure systems accompanied by a high air pressure in the upper atmosphere.

Fog began to form on Mukhairez with intermittent fog on Madinat Zayed, Liwa and Ghayathi in the Al Dhafra Region. Fog also formed on Seeh Shuaib in Abu Dhabi and Dubai-Al Ain

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) called on road users and motorists to take precautions and follow traffic instructions during the fog formation and low horizontal visibility on some inland and coastal areas.

The weather on Sunday is expected to be clear to partly cloudy and dusty at times during the day, with clouds appearing in the east in the afternoon and the temperature tending to drop slightly, the NCM said.

The weather is expected to be humid at night and Monday morning with the possibility of fog or light fog forming over some coastal and inland areas, especially in the east and north, it added.

Moderate northwesterly winds will blow on the country turning to strong and dust-stirring northeasterly winds at 20 to 30 and up to 40 km/h, particularly in the west.

The sea will be moderate to rough sometimes in the west during the day in the Arabian Gulf and will have light waves in the Gulf of Oman.

The weather on Monday will be clear to partly cloudy and dusty at times during the day, with clouds appearing in the east in the afternoon and a further drop in temperature, the NCM said.

Light to moderate northeasterly to southeasterly winds will blow in the country, turning to strong and dust-stirring winds in the east at 15 to 25 and up to 40 km/h, while the sea will have medium waves in the Arabian Gulf and light waves in the Sea of Oman, it added.
