UAE regulates labour law for private sector effective from February 2022

Its provisions shall apply as of February 2, 2022 to all establishments, employers and workers in the private sector in the country.

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, issued a federal decree regulating labour relations in the private sector.

It includes the following decree:

• Introducing a number of leaves for the worker, including: mourning leave ranging from 3 to 5 days according to the degree of the deceased's relatives, in addition to the five-day parental leave.

• The decree specified one type of contracts in terms of duration, which is a fixed-term contract that does not exceed three years, and it is permissible, by agreement of the two parties, to extend or renew this contract for similar or lesser periods once or more.

• Prohibition of discrimination in jobs with the same job duties, while the rules and procedures that would enhance the participation of the country's citizens in the labour market are not considered discrimination.
