Teenager declared brain dead miraculously revives just before his organs were set to be removed for donation

Lewis's family has set up a fundraising page asking people to buy a 'Pint for Lewis' to help him with his recovery.

A teen boy who was hit by a van and declared brain dead began breathing again on his own, just before his organs were going to be taken for donation.

Lewis Roberts, 18, was certified brain dead by doctors four days after the crash. His family members had decided to donate his organs to save the lives of seven other people, which bought him extra time on life support. Just before his organs were to be removed, Lewis miraculously started breathing once again on his own.

"On March 13th 2021 Lewis had suffered catastrophic head injuries when he was struck by a van in his home town Leek. After being flown to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Four days later on March 17th the doctors broke the news to our family that nothing more could be done as he'd unfortunately suffered a "Brain stem death" and sadly passed away," the family said on the GoFundMe page.

They added, "After saying our goodbyes to Lewis, close family bravely agreed for his organs to be donated to help 7 other peoples lives- buying lewis extra time before his life support machine was turned off. Just hours before Lewis' surgery, he began to breathe again on this own. A miracle any family could wish for after being told he was given a zero chance of pulling through."

Lewis has shown progress and "has started to react to pain tests, moving limbs on his own and also moving his head side to side, blinking and also moving his mouth."

People from around the world are sending their best wishes to Lewis for his recovery.

So far, £3,159 (Rs 3.18 lakh) has been raised for Lewis.
