A 25-year-old student, Yashwant Kumar, who was pursuing his Masters in Florida died after he was swept away by strong currents in West Florida’s Crab Island

A 25-year-old student from Telangana who was pursuing his Masters in Florida died in a sea mishap in the USA.

The deceased, identified as Yashwant Kumar, a resident of Vemulawada of Rajanna-Sircilla district, had gone to the USA for higher education last December after completing his Btech from Hyderabad.

It was on Sunday that Yashwant along with his friends Subhoday, Mysura, Charan, Srikar and Sarvari had gone off West Florida’s Crab Island from a rental pontoon boat. He and friends were having boat issues, following which a few of them jumped into the water, in an attempt to fix the issue.

However, they were swept away by strong currents. While the other four individuals in the water were rescued by an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO vessel), an FWC vessel, and the USCG, Yashwant couldn't get to the boat because the waves were too high.
