Clip of Indian student schooling British host about history in 1957 will leave you stunned
India is the land of rich minds, who are very well-equipped to break down the history of the nation and make critical and logical observations. Recently, a video from 1957 is going viral on Twitter. It features a smart Indian student named Padmanabha Gopinath schooling a British host named Sara Chatt about some historical aspects of India and Britain.
It all started when the host opined that India was friendly to the British. Responding to the statement, Gopinath stated, "Prejudice is willful ignorance. It is dictated only by emotion. And the fear and suspicion it creates causes more harm than I can think of." Further, when Chatt started talking about history, Gopinath added to the conversation by saying that the Indus Valley existed 3000 years ago before Magna Carta was signed and when “savage Anglo Saxons were still running around dressed in skins”.
The clip was shared on Twitter by Anand Mahindra. He stated, "This was going around furiously on social media yesterday. Wonderful to see someone so vigorously champion the cause of India back in ‘57!”
The industrialist also went on to tag Indian politician Shashi Tharoor and enquired about Gopinath. Tharoor responded, "I *was* born by then! And I know the brilliant bespectacled Indian student, who went on to be a star official at the @ILO. He is now retired & living in undeserved anonymity."
Many commented on the video. One stated, "Gopinath Padmanabh was only 18years old at the time of this debate but his knowledge, maturity, body language, way of speaking." Another claimed, "Most sensible and intelligent debate proud of you Gopi sir! Hope you are well and sound wherever you are."
The clip garnered over 139k views.
