Meghan Markle lookalike says she is often trolled but gets 'special treatment' when she goes out
What will it be like to be regularly mistaken as the Duchess of Sussex online and in public places? Twenty-one-year-old Sidney Beckles experiences it almost every day.
Meghan Markle is one of the most easily-recognised faces in the world. The Duchess of Sussex married Prince Harry at St George's Chapel, Windsor in May 2018. But even before he marriage, she was a popular face after having appeared on the US TV show Suit.
Beckles is not related to Markle and nor is she her pal. But the 21-year-old says she looks so much like her that she gets free drinks on night outs and also gets trolled online.
Beckles first went viral on TikTok after some clips showing her uncanny resemblance to Markle left viewers stunned.
While Beckles is not entitled to any of the services Markle receives, she is happy to receive special treatment when she goes out.
The 21-year-old from Bournemouth is now often dubbed as Markle's doppelganger on social media. This seems to be working in her favour as some her videos have clocked over 6 lakh views on TikTok.
But not all days are good because online trolling is something she can't avoid.
"Most of the hate is directed at Meghan specifically, and just telling me that I shouldn't be proud to look like her. Generally, people say good things, with the most common one online being: 'Wow, I thought this was Meghan Markle' or 'You look just like Meghan Markle, she's beautiful.' And this is similar in person," she was quoted as saying by Mirror UK.
Beckles, who is a part-time waitress, said she doesn't look like the former actress unless she straightens her hair. But over the years, she has come to realise the similar facial features she has with Markle.
"I find it a huge compliment to be considered her lookalike, as she's a stunning woman. It's hard with regards to her as a person because I don't really know much about her – but from what I do know, she seems to be a nice person," she said.
The photos and videos she photos on TikTok nowadays get flooded with messages.
"Are you sure you weren’t separated at birth? Absolute twins," a user asked Beckles.
