Italian woman mummifies her mother's body and hides it to collect pension

The Italian city of Milan witnessed a strange incident, as an Italian woman hid her mother's body for several months in order to collect her pension.

According to local media, a 64-year-old Italian woman hid her dead mother's body, after embalming it, in a box for several months to continue receiving her pension.

The woman was found dead in an apartment in the Paderno Dugnano area, after neighbours informed the police that they had not seen the woman for a long time.

Once the police arrived at the house, the fully mummified body of the 90-year-old woman was discovered, wrapped in plastic food wrapping tape, and it was believed that her daughter had hidden it.

Neighbours confirmed that she told them that her mother had moved to a nursing home in Verona, about 150 kilometers east of Milan, but the police did not find the woman's name in the residence records of this facility, and the woman's death was not recorded either.

According to reports, her daughter, who had no source of income, was receiving her pension in a joint bank account.

The elderly woman died of natural causes.
