54-yr-old woman suffering from long Covid breaks down after smelling coffee

A video of a 54-year-old woman breaking down after being able to smell coffee properly after two years has gone viral online.

Covid-19 wreaked havoc all across the world and several people who contracted the virus complained of long Covid-19 symptoms as well.

Long Covid-19 symptoms such as loss of taste or smell exist. And a 54-year-old woman from the US named Jennifer Henderson was suffering from the same since she contacted the disease in January 2021. While her other symptoms, such as headaches and fatigue, disappeared after a week, her altered senses persisted for almost a year. Her favourite smells, such as those from flowers in her yard, became unpleasant, and most foods tasted terrible to her.

"Most food tasted like garbage, and I couldn’t smell anything," she told the Cleveland Clinic.

For her, garlic and bananas tasted like gasoline and metal. Ranch dressing and peanut butter tasted like chemicals. And chicken tasted like rotting flesh," she told NBC News.

Despite trying different remedies, including acupuncture and smell training, Henderson found no relief until she discovered an experimental treatment through an online support group. The treatment, known as stellate ganglion block (SGB), is typically used to treat pain and PTSD and involves injecting temporary anesthesia into nerves on either side of the neck. In December, Henderson received her first SGB injection and experienced a dramatic improvement in her sense of smell.

In a video that has raked up millions of views on TikTok, she can be seen smelling coffee. Jennifer literally broke down in tears and started crying after she was able to smell the coffee normally after two years.
